Marley lives with my friend Richie, who is just around the corner. Marley is a corgi-chihuahua mix with a pointy face, huge ears and an even more enormous backside. He loves food and cuddles, and he's an enthusiastic walking companion.
I see so many dogs taking their owners for a walk, or conversely, humans who drag their canine companion away from everything that catches their nose. I enjoy the constant stop-start of walking with Marley. Every lamppost, wall and street corner is an enticing opportunity to sniff. I try not to hurry him.
If you have a dog of your own, try walking at their pace this week. If you can reliably recall them, give them space to explore and follow them. Or borrow a dog to walk and experience the world through their curiosity.
Agreed! This and so much more to add about the dog owners who just don’t get it. The most absurd is when their dog meets another dog. They would tell the dog to stop barking, stop sniffing and touching the other dog, stop playing and generally stay clear. If you don’t accept the doggy point of view and want him to act as if he was human then what’s the point of buying and owning a dog? Buy a human instead!
Dog walking is the best!
