Better lives are rarely oriented downwards. We celebrate personal downsizing, but only as a gateway to more of something else. Relinquishment and separation are common ritual motions, but we rarely hold the empty space that they create. Something else always rushes in.
I know I’m as prone to this as anyone. I let burdens slip from my overfull hands, only to wake up the next morning wondering how I might fill my time.
This week, practice putting something down. If you are feeling brave, chose something precious to you, like a previously loved stone, shell or feather. Take it with you on a walk, fill it with your gratitude, and leave it behind. Return home empty-handed, and stay that way as long as you dare.

Great ritual, Dru! I recently painted a rock with the word "Release" in blue and tossed it into a waterfall at a local watershed. Felt good. When I returned home, I rested. :D
