Any doorway, gate or gap between trees can be an entrance point to another dimension. We sense this when we leave home to go for a walk. Day-to-day concerns are left behind as we enter a different kind of world. If we walk with the intention of discovery, that world can be filled with magical possibility.
Liminal states - when we find ourselves betwixt and between - are potent places of transformation. We name them for the Latin word for threshold, limen. We cannot reach them without crossing over, letting go of the everyday world, allowing our gaze to soften as our consciousness to shift. Anything can happen on the other side, if we are willing to meet it with an open heart and mind.
This week, find a threshold. Pause and breathe before you cross it. Let yourself be enchanted by whatever lies on the other side. Just remember to return the way you came, crossing the threshold again, back into your everyday world.
Beautiful image to accompany your writing. I think of thresholds as powerful portals too. I grew up with many road trips on summer holidays through long mountain tunnels that you couldn’t see the other side of before you were mostly through.
